چکیده

Introduction Significant progress has been made in early detection and therapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death. Better characterization of lung tumors will allow for individualized therapy. There is increasing evidence that hypoxia in tumors predicts poor outcome for many tumor types including lung malignancies, most notably with respect to radiation therapy [1]. Noninvasive assessment of tumor vascular oxygenation using BOLD (Blood Oxygenation Level Dependant) MRI is currently applied in studies of breast, cervix, and head & neck cancers [2]. BOLD imaging of lung tumors is challenging due to artifacts caused by blood flow, respiratory and cardiac motion, and the susceptibility effects of the surrounding lung tissue. In this study, we evaluate the feasibility of applying BOLD MR imaging in untreated NSCLC.

Design and Fabrication of a Four-Dimensional Respiratory Phantom for Studying Tumor Movement in Radiotherapy with Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: In radiation therapy, determining the location of the tumor accurately during irradiation is one of the most important requirements. However, lung tumors are not fixed in a single location and move during irradiation due to respiratory motion. Due to limitations in assessing such movements, using a lung phantom can be useful and operational for their fast, easy an...

Repeatability of Detecting Visual Cortex Activity in Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction As functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is too expensive and time consuming, its frequent implementation is difficult. The aim of this study is to evaluate repeatability of detecting visual cortex activity in fMRI. Materials and Methods In this study, 15 normal volunteers (10 female, 5 male; Mean age±SD: 24.7±3.8 years) attended. Functional magnetic resonance images were ob...

Retinotopic mapping with spin echo BOLD at 7T.

For blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) functional MRI experiments, contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) increases with increasing field strength for both gradient echo (GE) and spin echo (SE) BOLD techniques. However, susceptibility artifacts and nonuniform coil sensitivity profiles complicate large field-of-view fMRI experiments (e.g., experiments covering multiple visual areas instead of focus...

The Utility of Diffusion Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Detection of the Origin of the Brain Solid Metastatic Tumors

Background: Early diagnosis of brain tumors has significant effect on the treatment process. Brain metastatic tumors are usually diagnosed following the neurological symptoms in patients or incidentally after Computerized Tomography (CT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) requests of the brain. Objectives: Implementation of a new method for being informed about the origin of brain tumors...

Assessment of segmental myocardial blood flow and myocardial perfusion reserve by adenosine-stress myocardial arterial spin labeling perfusion imaging.

PURPOSE To determine the feasibility of measuring increases in myocardial blood flow (MBF) and myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) on a per-segment basis using arterial spin labeled (ASL) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with adenosine vasodilator stress in normal human myocardium. MATERIALS AND METHODS Myocardial ASL scans at rest and during adenosine infusion were incorporated into a routine...
